National has re-decided that the status of Friday's game can be changed from a Unit-wide game to a Unit-local game. Hopefully, this is the end of this matter. In about 2 weeks, National will schedule another new Unit-wide game for us.
National has decided that the status of Friday's game cannot be changed from a Unit-wide game to a Unit-local game. There a two different ways to score the game, one is to score it as a percentage game, which is how the game is always score. The second is to foul the 12 boards at our club and to score the game "across the field". As of today, I have not been told how to score the game. However, I did change the 5 average+ scores to their original value and then fouled board #11 for the 1st five rounds. I sent a copy of the game to Joy Balser, who produces the overall results for us. Interestingly, after changing the scores for board #11 and producing a new rank report, there were no changes in rank. There were, however a few small changes in percentage points.
It appears that because of the number of fouled boards at our club in yesterday's game, the Unit-wide game will be cancelled and the status will be changed to a local unit game. ACBL needs to approve this, and that won't happen until at least Monday.
We make up the boards ahead of time so that you, the player, can play the maximum number of boards possible, and play the maximum number of pairs. (In yesterday's game, if the players had made the boards, only 24 boards would have been played instead of 26, and there would have been only 12 rounds, not 13.) This time we made a mistake putting the boards together, and both Barb and I feel badly about that. In fact, we feel so badly about it that, if you played at the Peoria Bridge Studio, we are willing to give you your money back. Anybody who feels they have been deprived of master points or who played in the game yesterday because it was a Unit-wide game should see either Barb or George and we will glady refund your money for yesterday's game.
For those who care about such things, at our club, the North/South and the East/West hands were reversed for boards 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 & 14. Board 11 was corrected after the 5th round of play and under the advice of Joy Balser the 1st 5 pairs to play the board were given an average+; However, because so many boards at our club did not match the boards as played at the other 2 clubs, there is some question about the validity of today's Unit-Wide game. The suggestion has been put forward that today's game be scored as a a Unit game and the Unit game at the end of May be changed to a Unit-wide game. However, ACBL needs to make the ultimate decision, and that won't happen until at least Monday.
Even though the hands are reversed, the results of the boards are valid at our club. Except for board #11, everybody played the above mentioned boards with the hands reversed.
For those who are interested, we will be open during the Senors Regional Tournament in Chandler.
